App Templates

Overview

Shortly after Adalo launched on ProductHunt we experienced a big spike in first-time user churn. The goal of this project was to give our users the ability to quickly start with their MVP, or see what kind of apps they can create

Scope

Adalo is a no-code platform that allows users to design, build, and launch apps to app stores.
Shortly after Adalo launched on ProductHunt we experienced a big spike in first-time user churn. We decided to create App Templates that would help our users to start their first app by giving them a base example of a working app and showing them how to create some of the most popular app features like chat, checkout process, and booking.

Some of the constraints I had to work with: Templates have to be generic enough to fit our makers needs, easy to edit, and have a small, working database with relationships and placeholder data.
They need to be powerful enough to show what Adalo can do, but not too be a “Swiss army knife” with all the features possible.

First Class App Template

One of the most popular customer support questions was “How can I add booking/scheduling functionality to my app?”
I’ve decided to build out an app example that will highlight this functionality and make it easier for our users to add it to their projects.

First Class is a two-sided app that supports 2 types of users - Teacher and Student.
Students can pick from the list of classes, see class details, and request classes, and Teachers can see all class requests, confirm or reschedule class requests and manage the classes they have added.

Food Spot App Template

The other popular maker question was “How can I add ordering functionality to my app?”
Our user research showed that at least 30% of apps built with Adalo are restaurant-type apps that have some kind of ordering flow implemented.
It was quickly decided to create this template that will show an easy ordering and adding tip workflow

Food Spot allows users to browse food truck menus, add menu items and drinks to their cart, add order notes, and add tips to their order

Date Night App Template

Date Night app showcases one of the most popular features - liking something.
This app template is simple. It has listing functionality, adding new list items, and liking existing list items.

Results and takeaways

Since the launch of app templates, we have seen a significant decrease in first-time user churn and the number of support cases. Additionally, we have received positive feedback from our users, and some Adalo experts got inspired by those templates and added more awesome templates to our Template Library.
Here are some Pendo stats that show how popular those templates still are:)

First Class App Template stats

Over the past 30 days, Pendo stats show that Appointments Template has 1,938 user visits

Food Spot App Templates stats

Over the past 30 days, Pendo stats show that Ordering Template has 1,534 user visits

Date Night App Template

Over the past 30 days, Pendo stats show that Appointments Template has 1,784 user visits
